Fly fishing with shooting head and running line is being applied more widely and is gaining in popularity. The currently known running lines are made from different materials and are produced as monofilament and polyfilament. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. With the STROFT running line, a new development has been achieved in which all advantages are combined. Decisive in this is a rectangular-like line cross-section with slightly convex side lines in a specific length ratio. The running line must meet several requirements:
1-The running line must ensure that the shooting head stretches linearly during the cast and in doing so develops sufficient power to optimally extend the leader as well.2-In addition, the running line must enable maximum casting distances.3-As much running line as possible (without memory) must be able to be handled, both in loops above the hand and on the ground or on the water surface, and these loops must be able to glide through the guides without tangling during casting.4-The running line must have high tensile strength and must in no case be the breaking point. The breaking point must always lie in the tip of the leader.5-During playing, also in wet conditions, the running line must provide sufficient grip to maintain optimal control.6-The running line must be clearly visible and low-reflective.7-The running line must retain all the above properties at both high temperatures and temperatures below freezing.
The STROFT running line has been developed taking these seven points into account. Tests and practical experience show that this has been achieved with high precision. A special polyamide alloy with ideal density and tensile strength forms the material basis. The rectangular-like cross-section with slightly convex side lines ensures very low memory, whereby the line must be briefly stretched before use. The light blue color ensures good visibility and a special surface treatment provides optimal sliding properties and maximum casting distances with minimal reflection. In combination with the cross-section, the surface also provides a secure grip, even when playing large fish.
