Dirty Bug Yarn
Dirty Bug Yarn is specially designed with a blend of natural and synthetic materials. It was born out of research into various dubbing materials, finding that many traditional dubbings are often only a single color. In reality, a fly or nymph, for example, a baetis nymph may be predominantly olive green, but is almost always composed of multiple shades of color. After all, nature is not monochromatic.
From this understanding, color blends were developed to create more realistic fly bodies, both for dry flies and nymphs. From this development process, Dirty Bug Yarn was born. In addition, essential dubbing colors and blends suitable for specific families of flies, such as tubeworms (caddis), were developed to provide flybinders with the best possible options.
For flybinders used to making their own dubbing blends, working with Dirty Bug Yarn means that inconsistencies or forgetting a previous blend ratio are a thing of the past. With Dirty Bug Yarn, you can rely on a consistent, reproducible blend. You can even combine two or three skeins of Dirty Bug Yarn for even more unique results.
It's worth noting that Dirty Bug Yarn holds air, making it suitable for flies where neutral buoyancy is desired. It also absorbs floatant and tapers beautifully to a point.
Dubbing is undoubtedly one of the trickier skills to learn in fly tying. That's why Semperfli has developed a range of dubbing-on-a-string: ready-made yarns that can be easily tied and wrapped on the hook. Dirty Bug Yarn consists of two twisted strands and can be used straight from the spool for larger flies, or split into single strands for smaller patterns. The range of colors is impressive and suitable for novice and experienced fly tying alike.
Each spool of Dirty Bug Yarn contains approximately 5 meters / 5.4 yards.
