No fly tyer can do without an assortment of fluorescent wires in their tying kit, and Fluoro Brite is an excellent choice in this regard. Fluoro Brite is a twisted fluorescent wire. To leave it perfectly flat, simply wring it out with your bobbin holder; then Fluoro Brite can be used as a flat floss material. Fluoro Brite has an extremely vibrant UV appearance that fish will find irresistible. Fluoro Brite is specially designed for fluorescence and is available in 240 denier (3/0) with a length of 25 feet.

Fluoro Brite is recommended for hooks size 10 to 2/0, but if you want to use it for smaller flies, Fluoro Brite can be split further. Use it as a hotspot, for ribbing, as a body or even as an eye-catching hotspot tail! For tails, we fold Fluoro Brite into a loop four times and tie it in as the tail of the fly. Then we cut it to length and fluff out the fibers with a dubbing brush. This creates a stunning curled tail that looks like there are tiny fire lights in the tail of your fly.

Since the book Fluorescent Flies (1964) by Joseph Keen and The Truth About Fluorescents (1967) by Thomas Clegg, fly tiers have been working with fluorescent materials. We decided to create a fluorescent thread with the advantage that it could be used as both tying thread and floss, and that could be wrung with the bobbin to serve as floss. Thus, Fluoro Brite was born to be different.

What is common knowledge is that fluorescent materials attract trout, salmon and other species of fish. We cannot see this effect ourselves, except under a UV lamp where the glow becomes visible. Fluorescent materials work particularly well one hour before sunrise and one hour after sunset. This is because even though we cannot see them, UV rays from the sun still reach the water and activate your flies.
