The origins of Curly Creature Dubbing go back to 2015. While brushing acrylic wool, the need arose for a fully synthetic dubbing with long fibers, ideal for large streamer heads and complemented by a subtle amount of Angelina Fibers. The dubbings on the market at the time contained natural materials such as merino wool and therefore offered three major drawbacks: insufficient robustness against the sharp teeth of predatory fish, water absorption with increasing weight and loss of stiffness, and fiber length too short for large patterns.

This prompted the development of proprietary dubbing. Manual production with specially designed machines produced a unique material that quickly became popular. Despite this interest, scaling up remained difficult due to limited capacity and color selection.

A breakthrough came in April 2024 during the EWF, where Alois Trübner came into contact with Tommyfly a Czech manufacturer of fly tying materials. The shared vision led to the Curly Creature Dubbing 2.0 project. In January 2025, the first new material variants were tested and the color concept determined in the Czech Republic. Not long after, production began.

In February 2025, the first series arrived: two color concepts in eleven variants.
The first concept - NATURAL - contains a range of natural shades, partly UV-active. The unique properties of this dubbing distinguish it directly from existing products:

• 100% synthetic and completely water-repellent

• Extremely durable and tear-resistant

• Very long fibers for generous streamer heads

• Extremely easy to process, even for beginners

• Perfect mix of Angelina Fibers and subtle flash

The second concept - NUCLEAR - takes underwater visibility to a higher level. Because colors already disappear at shallow depths, Tommifly integrates NUCLEAR fibers that make even non-UV-active colors UV-active. As a result, even dark shades such as black, brown and dark green become strikingly visible even in deep or murky water layers. This offers a great advantage for catching predatory fish.
