The story of the new Curly Creature Dubbing developed by Alois Trübner

The first Curly Creature Dubbing came about around 2015 while brushing acrylic wool. The reason was simple: I wanted a long dubbing for streamer heads in a specific color, mixed with a bit of Angelina Fibers as a fully synthetic material. The reason was that at the time, all dubbing on the market was mixed with natural materials, such as merino wool, and therefore had three negative properties.

1. They are not robust enough for our predators and their sharp teeth.

2. They absorb water, increasing the "empty weight" of the streamer over time and changing its texture, or in other words, losing its rigidity.

3. The fiber length is too short for large streamers or streamer heads.

This was reason enough for me to further develop "my" dubbing. Brushing did not seem a method with long-term potential, so I bought acrylic wool as raw material from wholesalers and processed it with hand-operated machines designed specifically for this purpose, mixing it with the perfect proportions of Angelina fiber. Thus was born the first Curly Creature Dubbing, which I began to sell in my store. Curly Creature Dubbing was so well received that it was even copied once or twice and sold in stores under a different name.

Because my manual production limited my capacity and the colors of material I could obtain, I could not serve stores as I would have liked. For years, I looked for a way to increase my productivity while simplifying the process.

Unfortunately, this didn't happen until I met Tommifly, owner of a fly fishing store and manufacturer of fly tying equipment from the Czech Republic, at the EWF (Erlebniswelt Fliegenfischen) in April 2024. I was impressed with the materials he already had, and so we got talking. The Curly Creature Dubbing 2.0 project was born, and we kept in close contact from then on. In January 2025, the time had finally come and I drove to Tommifly in the Czech Republic to test a few materials on site based on my requirements for the properties of Curly Creature Dubbing and to discuss the color concept. After a few hours of intense brainstorming and a few streamers later, the concept was final and production could begin. I was extremely excited about the final product and couldn't wait to finally hold it in my hands and tie the first streamer with it. In February 2025 the first delivery of the material arrived and there it was: the Curly Creature Dubbing 2.0 in 2 color concepts and 11 color variations

The first color concept is the "NATURAL" version and includes 11 colors, some of which are UV-active and some of which are not. As you would expect from other dubbings, we also have a few other notable features that set our Curly Creature Dubbing apart from all other dubbings on the market.

It is.

- Fully synthetic and therefore does not absorb water. This means that over time it will not add extra weight to your streamer and remains easy to cast all day.

- Virtually indestructible due to the composition of the material. It is so strong that it cannot tear. This means you will enjoy your streamers for a long time and they will not lose their volume and shape after you catch your first fish.

- Very long fibers, allowing you to easily make very large streamer heads.

- Very easy to handle, which makes it easy to handle even for beginners and gives fast, good results.

- Made with a special Angelina fiber/flash blend.

We would already set ourselves apart from other dubbings already on the market with the features just described, but Tommifly and Raptorz Fishing have really raised the bar with their second color concept, the "NUCLEAR" variant! What exactly does that mean, you are probably wondering? Let me explain briefly. Under water, colors disappear as the depth increases because the water absorbs certain light waves. Depending on the turbidity, this can happen as early as 2 meters deep. First red is filtered out, followed by orange, yellow and finally green, leaving a teal hue at greater depths. This is especially true of colors that are not uv-active. So what could we do? Tommifly has already integrated so-called NUCLEAR fibers into its other products and thus has been able to make non-uv-active materials uv-active, even black. This opens up completely new possibilities for streamer visibility because now even dark colors such as dark olive green, black or brown are uv-active thanks to the integrated NUCLEAR fibers. This means that even at great depths, whether clear or murky water, we can achieve better visibility with this material, making streamers more visible to predatory fish. This greatly increases our chances! I say, try it yourself and convince yourself! You will be amazed!
